Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security to help keep your online accounts secure. Google Workspace is an example of a service that has 2FA. It requires two pieces of information from you – something only you know, like your password, and something you have, like your phone – in order to log in.

Google Workspace and other popular services use 2FA to make sure it’s really you logging in. To log in, you need two things – something only you know like your password and something that you have like your phone.

With 2FA, it is harder for someone else to access your account without permission because they don’t have both pieces of information. Google Authenticator and Authy by Twilio are popular alternatives that can help protect your account and data. Other popular alternatives include LastPass Authenticator, Duo Security, and Microsoft Authenticator.
